is this really a flat plane v8 made from 2 zytek 4's? or was that all in my head?

I honestly don't know. I think it is based on late 80s design of the Cosworth V8. Don't know if they used 2 inline 4s or not though. The crank might be of the same design though.

You mean the Cosworth DFV (the 60s Cosworth V8)? That was a flat-plane. If you mean the much later (90s) HB V8, I don't know anything about those.

Well Zytek used to be the supplier of Cosworth V8s for F3000 series of races, in the late 80s some time. Then they took over as engine supplier and built their own, to similar spec. That is my extent of knowledge to the engine. It isn't based on the later 90s version, they were making their own engines by that time. The crank is for sure flat-plane.
